Introduction

  • This study of the Feast of Firstfruits is one of a series of studies covering the Biblical Feasts ordained by God.
  • As noted on a separate page that introduces this series of studies, all of the Feasts are *shadow prophecies.* [Click HERE to read that introduction, if you haven't already done so.]
  • The Feasts mainly prophesy about the birth, life, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus, the Lamb of God. Yet God decreed the Feasts over 1400 years BEFORE Jesus was born. -->
  • As proven by a separate page of this series, the Passover Feast prophesied the crucifixion of Jesus, the Lamb of God. [Click HERE to read the study of Passover, if you haven't already done so.]
  • In the paragraphs that follow, you will see that the celebration of Firstfruits was a prophecy of the resurrection of Jesus, the Lamb of God.
  • In summary, Passover prophesied the Lord's crucifixion. Firstfruits prophesied His resurrection.

Origin of the Feast of Firstfruits
God decreed that the Firstfruits of *the harvest* were to be offered unto Him every year, on the day after the Passover Sabbath in the week of Unleavened Bread.
[God commanded...] When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest to the priest. He shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it. Lev 23.10-11

The offering of Firstfruits included...

  • The first of ripe produce and juices was to be waved before the Lord.
  • Each household's firstborn son was to be offered unto the Lord.
[God commanded...] You shall not delay to offer the first of your ripe produce and your juices. The firstborn of your sons you shall give to Me. Ex 22.29

Fulfillment of the Passover Lamb

  • More than 1400 years AFTER God decreed the offerings of Passover and Firstfruits, Christ Jesus was crucified for your sins.
  • Christ IS your Passover Lamb!
Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.
1 Cor 5.7

Fulfillment of the Firstfruits

  • On Sunday, the day after the Saturday Sabbath, Jesus rose from the dead.
Now on the first day of the week [Sunday], very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. Lk 24.1-3
  • Thus, Jesus fulfilled the prophecy of Firstfruits.
  • Jesus IS your Firstfruits!
But now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep [died]. 1 Cor 15.20

For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order:
Christ the firstfruits... 1 Cor 15.22-23a

Jesus IS your Firstborn, offered unto God!

  • When you received Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you did in fact offer mankind's *Firstborn* unto God.
  • Thus did you obey and fulfill God's decree to offer Him your Firstfruits.
And Jesus is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. Col 1.18

Jesus asked His disciples, saying, "Who do men say that I,
the Son of Man, am?" Mt 16.13b

Ratoon Crop

  • The fact that Christ was "the Firstfruits" means that there must later be a "Full Harvest"
  • YOU, dear believer on Jesus, shall be part of that Full Harvest.
  • In Christ, you shall be made alive at His coming.
As in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive. But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming. 1 Cor 15.22-23
  • At Christ's return, you shall be *harvested* unto God.
  • Thus shall you ALWAYS be with the Lord!

Amen

The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.
And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1 Thes 4.16-17
