Descended from the tribe of Judah

Luke 3.33 [Jesus is descended from...] the son of Amminadab, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah
Isa 9.7 Of the increase of His [the Messiah's] government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Heir to the throne of David

Luke 1.32-33 He [Lord Jesus] will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.
Dan 9.25a Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the command to restore and build Jerusalem [March 4, 444 BC] until Messiah the Prince [Lord Jesus], there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks [69 weeks of years - 483 years total. A Bible year is 360 days per year.]

The exact date that God decreed for the birth of Jesus

John 12.12-13 The next day [March 29, 33 AD] a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out. "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD! The King of Israel!"

Analysis of Dan 9.25 and John 12.12-13 [NOTE: Snips of key references are quoted in the next panel below.]

  • The date of March 4, 444 BC is derived from Neh 2.1-8, calculated in light of secular history books. King Artaxerxes commanded Nehemiah to rebuild Jerusalem in 444 BC.
  • "Weeks" translates the Hebrew word shabuwa, #7620 in Strong's Concordance. Shabuwa literally means "sevened" -- in this case, a sevened-grouping of years. Note that prophet Daniel was meditating on YEARS, as is clearly stated in Dan 9.2.

A Bible month is exactly 30 days. This is calculated as follows...

  • Per Gen 7.11 the rain, that brought the flood in Noah's day, began on month 2, day 17
  • Per Gen 8.3 the flood decreased at the end of 150 days
  • Per Gen 8.4 the ark landed on Mt Ararat on month 7, day 17 -- exactly 5 months after the rain began.
  • 150 days divided by 5 months equals 30 days per Bible month.
  • Ergo, a Bible year is 360 days [12 months times 30 days].

The date of "Messiah the Prince" prophesied by Dan 9.25

  • There are 483 years in 69 weeks of years [69 times 7]
  • A Bible year is 360 days [12 months times 30 days]
  • There are 173, 880 days in 483 Bible years [483 times 360]
  • There are 365.24219 days in each sidereal year [the true time required for the earth to orbit the sun]
  • There are 476 sidereal years plus 25 days in 173,880 days [173,880 divided by 365.24219]
  • Start from March 4, 444 BC, then add 476 years and 25 days. The resultant date is March 29, 33 AD.
  • Jesus made His triumphal entry to Jerusalem, as Messiah the King, on March 29, 33 AD

Snips of key references for the preceding discussion...

  • Neh 2.1a And it came to pass in the month of Nisan [Mar-Apr], in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes
  • Dan 9.2b God would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
  • Gen 7.11a In the 600th year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month
  • Gen 8.3b At the end of the 150 days the waters decreased.
  • Gen 8.4 Then the ark rested in the seventh month, the seventeenth day of the month, on the mountains of Ararat.
  • Dan 9.25c there shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks
Isa 7.14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

Born of a virgin

Luke 1.26-27, 1.30-31 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. ...Then the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS." [See also Mt 1.18-25]
Mic 5.2 [God said...] But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.

Born in Bethlehem

Luke 2.4-5, 2.7a Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. ...And she brought forth her firstborn Son

Mt 2.16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.
Hos 11.1 [God said...] "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son."

Flight to Egypt

Mt 2.14-16 When he [Joseph] arose, he took the young Child [Jesus] and His mother [Mary] by night and departed for Egypt, and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, "Out of Egypt I called My Son."
Isa 40.3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness. "Prepare the way of the LORD. Make straight in the desert a highway for our God."

Mal 3.1 "Behold, I send My messenger, And he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming," says the LORD of hosts.

The beginning of His ministry is announced by a forerunner

[Jesus spoke to the multitudes concerning John the Baptist...] What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind? But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Indeed those who are gorgeously appareled and live in luxury are in kings' courts. But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. This is he of whom it is written. "Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You." Lk 7.24-27
I will declare the decree. The LORD has said to Me, "You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession." Psalm 2.7-8

Declared to be the Son of God

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Mt 3.16-17
Nevertheless the gloom will not be upon her who is distressed, as when at first He lightly esteemed the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward more heavily oppressed her, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, in Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. Isa 9.1-2

Galilean ministry

And leaving Nazareth, Jesus came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying. "The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles. The people who sat in darkness have seen a great light, and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death light has dawned." Mt 4.13-16
[Moses said...] The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your midst, from your brethren. Him you shall hear Deu 18.15

Moses truly said to the fathers, "The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you."
Acts 3.22
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD Isa 61.1-2a

Came to heal the brokenhearted

[Jesus said...] The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD. Lk 4.18-19
He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Isa 53.3

Rejected by His own [the Jewish people]

He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. John 1.11
The LORD has sworn and will not relent, "You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." Psalm 110.4

A priest after the order of Melchizedek

So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He [the Father] who said to Him [Jesus, the Son], "You are My Son. Today I have begotten You." As He also says in another place. "You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek." Heb 5.5-6
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your King is coming to you. He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. Zech 9.9

Triumphal entry into Jerusalem

The disciples brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them, and set Jesus on them. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying. "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD! Hosanna in the highest!" Mt 21.7-9
